Model numbers Snow Joe SJ620 and SJ621
The Snow Joe SJ620 18-Inch 13.5-Amp Electric Snow Thrower
is an easy to use, 13.5 amp snow thrower that fills the niche for a heavier-duty electrically powered machine.
The Snow Joe SJ621 has a similar specification to the SJ620, the only difference is that it has halogen headlamps. So whilst we refer to the snow Joe SJ620 in this review, what we say is equally applicable to the SJ621.
Main Features
- 13.5 Amp electric motor
- Suitable for Paved areas
- 18 inch clearing width
- Electric push button instant start
- Height of snow discharge controlled by chute deflector
- Adjustable chute to 180 degrees
Suitable for larger residential use the Snow Joe SJ620 can dispose of 650 pounds of snow per minute and remove 2450 square feet of snow in an hour. This is a Snow Joe electric snow thrower that offers the convenience and reliability of an electric unit but the power of a gas machine.
It features an instant push button start, a four blade heavy duty steel rotor and clears a useful 18 inch width to a depth of 10 inches with one pass. Snow Joe claims the machine throws a distance of twenty feet, but in practice, only about half that distance may be achieved in some, especially wet, snow conditions.
The discharge chute is fully adjustable with 180 degree rotation and, you can adjust the deflector vertically to increase height and throwing distance. The SJ620 is also easy to maneuver through its easy glide compact pivot wheels.
It has a four blade heavy steel rotor that scrapes right down to ground level (which is great for hard surfaces but means it is not suitable for rough ground or gravel). The unit is pretty light and can be hung on the garage wall. It is ETL approved and comes with a two year warranty.
This Snow Joe electric snow thrower is highly regarded by it users and generally commended as a well built, easy to handle, low maintenance machine.
Some users report that the SJ620 is best used when the snowfall is fresh if you want to move large amounts of snow. If you leave it until the snow has hardened, then it may well prove difficult to move and will require loosening first. Like most electric snow throwers, these units do not like hard or very wet snow and ice. You may find, under load, that the drive belt has a tendency to squeak.
A tip on starting… hold in the starter button while pulling back on the handle. This is not fully explained in the manual. It is also a good idea to spray with Armor All or similar on the areas that snow comes into contact with, such as the blades and chute, to prevent sticking and help to protect your machine’s surfaces.
